Arabella Plouviez

Arabella Plouviez is based in the UK, and was selected to do a Research Fellowship in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The work is called 'Naristan' which translated means Ladyland, and comes from a feminist utopia described in the novel 'Sultana's Dream' written by Rokeya Shakawat Hossain, and early 20th century Bengali activist and writer, still held in very high regard in Bangladesh.
The work takes quotes from the description of this utopia and combines them with portraits of women posed in their domestic surroundings, in contemporary middle-class Bangladeshi houses.

‘Naristan’ has been exhibited in Slovakia, Bangladesh, Malaysia and at the Angkor Wat Photo Festival in Cambodia.
