Alam

Shahidul Alam, who is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, was commissioned in 2004 to make work in England, hosted by the University. Alam is the founder of Drik, Bangladesh's first Picture Library, and Pathshala, the South Asian Insitute of Photography, he is an internationally renowned photographer, using photography as a tool for political change.

One of the first series of commissions set up by the International Photography Research Network (IPRN), Alam was asked to make photographs in the UK in response to the theme of 'work'. Alam's work is called 'People of Leisure' and looks at the British aristocracy, from the country estate and traditional pursuits, to the gentleman's club and the House of Lords.

Alam’s work has been exhibited in Malaysia at the National Art Gallery and at the Angkor Wat Festival in Cambodia.
